Announcing Support for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

April 23, 2024

We're happy to announce support for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS ("Noble Numbat").

Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distribution used for running web servers. Ubuntu releases a Long-Term Support (LTS) version every two years. Ubuntu LTS releases are enterprise-grade and receive security updates from Ubuntu for five years. For 24.04, that means security updates through 2029.

Ubuntu 24.04 does not include any significant differences in functionality for servers. The MySQL version on Ubuntu 24.04 is the same as on Ubuntu 22.04 (that is, MySQL 8.0). As with other Ubuntu versions, ServerPilot provides our own PHP, Nginx, and Apache packages so our users always have the latest versions.

You can connect an Ubuntu 24.04 server to ServerPilot as soon as your server provider makes Ubuntu 24.04 images available. Most cloud providers such as Google Cloud, AWS, and DigitalOcean make Ubuntu LTS images available within a few days of release.

Upgrade Ubuntu

Ubuntu versions earlier than Ubuntu 20.04 no longer receive security updates from Ubuntu. If you have a server running an older version such as Ubuntu 16.04 or 18.04, you should upgrade to at least Ubuntu 20.04.

To determine which Ubuntu version a server is running, SSH into the server and run the following command:

cat /etc/lsb-release

See our articles below for information on upgrading Ubuntu.
